 Around 100 citizens of Resen participated in the second forum session that took place on the 17th December in the hotel Kitka, as part of the Community Forums Programme.

 At this forum session the citizens of Resen, distributed at 10 working tables, had the opportunity to determine and discuss the priority problems in the field of environmental protection. 
    The topic chosen at the first forum session was presented to the citizens, as well as all the environment related projects implemented so far in the Municipality of Resen. 
    During the forum session, the citizens pointed out several priority issues, such as the problem of the decreasing level of water in the Prespansko Lake, the exaggerated use of ground water, the lack of canalization in the villages above the Prespansko Lake (because of which the faeces are let out in the lake, water supply problems in the villages, the city landfill that does not provide the minimal conditions, as well as the lack of a dump-site for construction and medical waste, the creation of illegal dump-sites, the lack of containers for waste collection, the exaggerated use of pesticides, etc. 
    The citizens of Resen will continue the discussion on these issues at the following forum sessions as well, and they will also propose solutions and specific projects.
    “Some of the priority problems in the municipality are: the polluting of Prespansko Lake and Golema Reka, the problem with the city landfill, the exaggerated use of pesticides for the fruits. It is necessary to build a collection system for purification of wastewaters for the protection of Golema Reka, and of other rivers as well, protection from the excessive use of pesticides on fruit, etc.”, said Ilija Janevski, a teacher participating at the working table education and healthcare.
    He added that he supports this mode of direct decision-making by the citizens for solving pressing problems of importance to the local community.
    Naum Sterjovski from the business sector pointed out the problems with the excessive pollution from industrial capacities, the need for projects in order to decrease this pollution and use the waste from industrial production.
    Ivancho Marichevski, a student participating at the youth working table, pointed out the need of raising youth awareness, and the awareness of adults as well for environmental protection, but this demands a longer campaign. The citizens at the sport and youth working table had similar thoughts. As Mende Karapalevski, a teacher said: the youth needs further education in order to raise their public awareness.   
    “I like this kind of citizen decision-making and I feel it is very useful. My only remark regards the length of the form sessions, I wish they were shorter”, said the high school student Ivona Karanfilovska.
    She also added that it would be nice for the youth to have a park with benches and trees, that can be used for walks and leisure, as the city lacks this kind of park.
    All of the problems determined by the citizens of Resen were grouped in four groups: insufficiently developed environmental awareness of the citizens of Resen, water, air and soil pollution from exaggerated use of chemicals and fossil fuels, lack of adequate treatment of solid waste and wastewaters, as well as the lowered water potential and inadequate water supply in Pespa.
    “I am very satisfied that the citizens of Resen pointed out a large number of problems they are facing that influence the quality of the environment in Resen and Prespa. I am satisfied that the citizens actively participated in identifying the problems and in finding ways for resolving them”, said the moderator Miodrag Kolik at the end of the forum.
