  Around 100 citizens of Novo Selo were present at the second forum session, part of the Community Forums Programme, that took place on the 24th December in the reastaurant Michel in the Municipality of Novo Selo.

“The forum is an excellent opportunity to receive funds for our priority issues”, said Trajche Markov (56), unemployed resident of the municipality.
    Those present at the 13 working tables formed by this Forum, choosing three or more problems at each table, determined the major sub-topics i.e. defined the problems: water supply and canalization, irrigation canals and communal waste.
    “We need a filtration station, canalization, as well as a sports hall”, pointed out Zora Atanasova (52), a housewife from Novo Selo.
    The working group, that had the task to determine the situation inside the main topic – Communal Infrastructure, chosen by the citizens of Novo Selo at the last, first session, had a presentation at the begining of the session.
    “The topic comprises forming a wider picture for the entire municipality”, explained the forum moderator Vesna Shkortova, representative of FOSIM, the implementing organization of the Programme in Novo Selo.
    The representative of this working group, among other things, pointed out that in the Municipality of Novo Selo, that comprises 16 settlements with 11,567 inhabitants, not a single settlement has a system for wastewater treatment.
    “Our village is a little off the road and the people does more work than what we receive. We hope this Programme will help us”, says Grozdanova Marina, unemployed from the village Staro Konjare.
    A working group will be formed in accordance with each sub-topic determined at the second session, and they will present their reports at the next, third session.
    The Community Forums Programme began in the Municipality of Novo Selo with a total budget of eight million denars, two of which are municipal participation, while six million are a donation from the Swiss Development and Cooperation Agency (SDC).
    The goal of the Programme is to promote the democratic model of citizen decision-making in the decentralization process, through contributions with ideas, participation and specific results.
    The next forum in the Municipality of Novo Selo is scheduled for the 28th January 2009.
