The citizens of Berovo choose a project

Almost 70 citizens of Berovo participated in the seventh forum session of the Community Forums Programme which took place on July 1 at the “Dedo Illo Malesevski” elementary school.  “Construction of pavements and storm drain” is the project which the citizens of Berovo chose as a priority, by means of a democratic vote, to improve everyday life in their municipality.   The total budget of the project is MKD 10,065,161.55 of which the Swiss Agency for Reconstruction and Development (SDC) and the Municipality provide MKD 8,000,000.  The remaining funds are covered by the holder and partners.  Sixty-two citizens, divided into nine working tables, voted for seven projects. The chosen project received a total of 42 votes from the present citizens.  Voting rights were reserved for citizens of the municipality which had attended at least four forum sessions. Votes were not cast individually, but rather per working tables, representing various social and economic interest of various groups.  Berovo’s Mayor, Dragi Nadjinski, said that even though the citizens of Berovo had chosen one project as a priority, all projects were of equal importance to the municipality and would be implemented during his four-year term in office.  The Forum also presented statements by working groups’ representatives, including the Clean Environment group, whose representatives withdrew the project proposal due to unresolved property issues.   Still, they called for recommending this project proposal to the municipal authorities and for finding ways to implement it in the near future.   Other project proposals developed by the citizens of Berovo in the past few months, which were not approved by the Forum vote, have also been submitted as recommendations to the municipal administration.   The total budget for the municipality Berovo amounts to MKD 8 million, of which MKD 2 million are the municipality’s contribution, and MKD 6 million are a donation from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).
