The First forum session in the Community Forums Programme took place at the Penestija restaurant in the Debar House of Culture on Friday, 9th May, with the participation of over 80 citizens of Debar.
After the introductory notes by the moderator, Igor Tasevski, the Forum which operated through ten working tables (sports, environment, future, education, elementary education, secondary education, culture, youth, local administration) identified the main problems in the field of education, chosen by citizens in the Zero session.
The representatives of the working group, Lausere Haxhirexha and Ilir Iseni, presented before the session participants the main problems identified by this group in the field of education, including: the inadequate building of the Debar high-school, lack of teaching staff for students with special needs, lack of a youth education center, lack of a sports hall in the town, the need for a Center for Foreign Languages, etc.
According to Snezana Todorovska, teacher, education in Debar has a need for many projects. On the other hand, the journalist Vjollca Sadiku thinks that the chosen field – education, provides ample opportunity to develop useful projects for Debar.
“I think that the approved funds will be invested correctly and in the right things,” she says.
The representative of the local self-government, Selim Berimi, member of the municipal Council, explained about the mandate of the local self-government unit in the field of education. In his view, it is useful for the citizens deciding on project priorities to be familiar with the scope of the municipality’s competencies in the field of education.
The ten working tables were followed by identification of problems related to the topic. The most common problems included: lack of a sports hall in the town, need for a new high-school building, equipment for the kindergarten, lack of books in school libraries, lack of equipment in cabinet education, entertainment park for the children, need for a Center for Foreign Languages, etc.
The participant Argetim Jajaga, coach of the Dibra Junior basketball club, states that the approach to problem identification is very good. He says that sports are important to young people in this town, where the number of young drug addicts is on the rise.
The identified problems were eventually grouped and four working groups were formed –working group on spatial problems, working group related to the lack of teaching aids and equipment, working group on outdoor classes, as well as a working group on problems related to the study of foreign languages and modern ballet and folk dances.
The participants in the First Session decided for the Second Session to take place on 6th June.
