Arrangement of parks, parking lots, sidewalks, lighting of school yards as well as other problems aimed at improving the environment, were among the issues discussed in the first session of the Community Forums Programme, which is being implemented in the Municipality of Cair.
This session was attended by approximately 90 citizens, divided into several groups, which raised a number of issues present in the municipality under the topic “Improving the environment”.
According to the citizens, the Municipality of Cair is facing many problems in the field of the environment. “There are many problems, because we lack an environmental culture. Still, we emphasized only a few of them, including park management and waste recycling,” said Ismail Krifca, citizen of Cair. A group of pensioners asked the working group to discuss in its future sessions the issue of the lack of parking spaces, especially in the John Kennedy settlement. The attending citizens identified the topics they’re most interested in implementing, namely arrangement of public spaces and infrastructure, as well as raising public awareness and hygiene. After the completion of the forum sessions, the project resulting from the sessions are planned to be implemented, with support from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation in the general amount of MKD 4,000,000 and from the Municipality of Cair in the amount of MKD 2,000,000. This phase of the Community Forums Programme is implemented by the Foundation Open Society Institute Macedonia (FOSIM), the Center for Institutional Development (CIRa), and the Macedonian Center for International Cooperation (MCIC). The Programme is coordinated by the Forum Coordination Unit/Consulting for Strategic Development, with active involvement of the Association of Units of Local Self-Government (ZELS).
